Meet Lon Lloyd: General Manager, Associated Carriers

By Brian Fielkow

lon-lloyd.jpgWhen Lon Lloyd decided he was ready to grow Associated Carriers, he turned to Jetco Delivery. As former owner and now general manager of Associated in Arlington, Texas, Lon saw the opportunity for both companies to provide more services for customers by joining forces. “Jetco’s level of customer service, quality of team members and emphasis on safety is exactly what Associated was looking for. We’re excited to be part of the Jetco family and grow the business together.”

How long have you been in the trucking industry?

16 years

Tell us about your experience in the trucking industry:

I was part of the ownership team that purchased Hood Transportation in July 2001. In the past 16 years I have seen our dispatch system evolve from a paper based “T” card system (highly labor intensive) to a dispatch system that allows our drivers to update their dispatches and “scan” paperwork with a smartphone or tablet. I am amazed at how much customer service has changed over the years as we’ve strived to continuously meet and exceed the needs of our customers.

Jetco's internal rallying cry is "Driving to Perfection" (D2P). It's about our values and how we operate. In your time so far, what does D2P mean to you?

Jetco is uncompromising when it comes to safety, integrity, and customer service. Their core values line up with those of Associated Carriers. The two companies’ combined now have physical locations in Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas/Fort Worth. This allows us to provide very unique service offering to our customers that operate in all three of these metropolitan areas.

In your time so far, what do does Driving to Perfection mean to you?

In transportation safety and excellent customer service are often conflicting priorities. Neither of these disciplines are developed accidentally. Driving to Perfection (D2P) is the intentional process of developing a culture that demands safety and while also providing best of class customer service.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I am married and have two teenagers that are involved in sports. We enjoy going watching them participate in volleyball, soccer and track. My hobbies include mountain biking, fishing, camping and snow skiing.

If you could go one place in the world that you’ve never been, where would you go?

My wife and I have an interest in traveling to China. The bucket list item for the trip would be visiting the site of the “Terracotta Army”. The “army” is composed of over 6,000 life sized clay statues of soldiers, horses and chariots that were made over 2200 years ago to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor. The story of the first emperor, the technology of that time and the ancient Chinese civilization’s ability to create this site fascinates my wife and I.
